Organized in 1980, the Highfield Youth Baseball Association is designed for T-Ball through Palamino, including Fall Ball. Our fields are located in Butler County, Pennsylvania.
Baseball season begins in April for Highfield Park. When the regular season ends in July, a fall baseball season begins and lasts until the end of October, weather permitting. This fall ball season culminates with a team participating in the Southeastern Tennessee Classic Tournament.
Major League Baseball's Matt Clement
Pittsburgh native Matt Clement began his baseball career on a Pee Wee field at Highfield Park after his family moved to Butler. In high school, he played on the Butler Jr. Varsity and Varsity teams and was coached by Ron and Gene Zawrotuk. After graduation, Matt turned down several Division I scholarships in basketball to pursue a career in baseball. Matt played American Legion Baseball under Post 778 and was coached by Gene.
Matt was a 3rd round draft pick by the San Diego Padres in 1993. He spent five seasons in the Padres farm system as top pitching prospect. Matt then spent 1998 and 1999 in the rotation for the Padres posting a 23-29 record.
As a member of the Florida Marlins, Clement went 9-10 with a 5.05 ERA. Matt joined the Cubs just five days before Opening Day 2002 and became a starting pitcher where he compiled a 12-11 record with a 3.60 ERA. Clement capped his 3-year stint with the Cubs by going 9-13 in 30 starts.
Matt played for the Boston Red Sox in 2005. Most recently Matt was playing for the Toronto Blue Jays. In 2009 he informed the Blue Jays on that he plans to retire from baseball after spending the past three years attempting to return from right shoulder complications. He and his wife Heather have 3 sons and make their off-season home in Butler. Matt has since retired and is currently the Butler High School Head Basketball Coach.
